Home is where the heart is. So naturally, it makes sense for your home to be your place of comfort & security. With everything going on in the world right now, your home should bring a sense of peace and calm into your life.
My inspiration behind my apartment decor is a reflection of my personal style. Neutral colors with subtle pops of gold, blush and greenery. I always tend to gravitate towards a neutral palette. I love styling my space with statement accessories to help add personality and character to the room.
For anyone looking for tips on decorating, the first thing I recommend is to settle on a paint color. Once you find the perfect color for your walls, start with the larger pieces of furniture, ie. the sofa, the rug etc. Many times during the moving process, we tend to purchase everything at once in hopes that we can get settled in quickly (I am definitely guilty of this). Sometimes we end up with a collection of beautiful pieces that may not blend well together once all of the furniture is in place. So start with the essential pieces of furniture and then move on to the accessories. It’s much easier to swap out smaller pieces once you are satisfied with the style and layout of the base furniture.
With my open floor plan, I knew I wanted each area in the apartment to have its own individual feel while maintaining the same theme through the entire space: Neutral colors with a hint of masculinity. Mixing the leather swivel chair and wooden side tables + barstools helped me to bring some masculine tones into a feminine palette.
Accessorizing with plants, mirrors and lighting can help tie the room together nicely. For me, the accessories help bring my neutral space to life and create contrast to balance out the room. One of my favorite pieces in the apartment is the white linen wood based lamp from West Elm. The base of the lamp ties in perfectly with the wooden furniture while the warm linen shade helps give a soft glow to accentuate the neutral pieces in the room. My best tip for decorating is that less is more and simple can be beautiful. Sometimes all takes is one or two key pieces to change the whole feel of the room.
Whether you’re moving and looking for inspiration or simply trying to freshen up your current space, take your time and really think about what aesthetic you are trying to achieve. Start with the basic pieces first and then work on adding the accessories in. We spend a lot of time within our homes (especially lately) so creating that space that will help bring the most calm and peace into your heart and soul is essential.
