There’s something so romantic about Fall. Growing up in Michigan, I can truly say that there is no place more beautiful to experience all of the Fall feels- the crisper air, cooler temperatures, leaves changing colors, cinnamon spice aromas and the love and warmth that fills the city of Detroit for the holidays. Fall fashion is my favorite and although this year has been very different from previous years, I still find myself indulging from time to time. In all transparency, I’ve spent the last several months wearing oversized sweats while at home and scrubs while at work. But once in awhile, getting dolled up and styling some of my favorite looks makes me hopeful for the future and for better days to come, even if I just wear them around the house.
When it comes to styling looks, I always look for the staples that can be used as transitional pieces from season to season. Pieces that can be worn in multiple ways and paired with different outfits. Every one of my favorite Fall looks usually starts with a comfortable pair of fitted, high waisted jeans and a jacket of some sorts. This particular jacket is a steal as it is a dupe of the Free People Dolman Quilted Jacket but for one sixth of the price. My neutral cream crop top is a piece that can be styled for a day to day look when paired with the oversized jacket or for a night on the town with jeans and comfortable boots. Of course no look is complete without a bag in one of the obligatory Fall colors. I chose a deep burgundy bag to complete the look, a perfect transitional piece for the Winter months ahead.
Although there remains much uncertainty over the next several months, sometimes making time to indulge in some of your simple pleasures can help remind you that better days are around the corner. For me, throwing on one of my favorite looks for a few minutes is a way to preserve a sense of routine in my life when so much of the world feels unpredictable right now. And of course, the beauty of enriching your wardrobe with staple pieces is that they will likely never go out of style and can still be worn in the better days to come. Shop my full outfit below.
